Hello guest

After leaving secondary school last year, Millie McGowan has now found employment as a steward and has benefited from skills learnt on the Tigers Trust's delivery of Premier League Inspires.

The Premier League Inspires programme works with students in secondary schools that typically face barriers to them achieving their full potential such as low confidence and self-esteem, attendance, or social skills.

Activities are delivered at school sites by our staff focused at developing students’ personal skills and supporting them to become more aware of next steps in education and the working world.

Somebody who has been involved within this programme is Millie, who's current role as a steward sees her working on matchdays at the MKM Stadium.

A big part of her position requires different teamworking tasks such as reporting broken items to her supervisor and making sure the concourse is empty after a match with the rest of her team, as well as using essential communication skills that includes directing spectators to their seats and providing them with assistance.
Millie feels like the Premier League Inspires programme has been hugely beneficial towards herself: “Throughout engaging with the Premier League Inspires programme I learnt a lot of valuable skills, these included customer service skills, communication skills, non-verbal & verbal skills, planning for personal development and employability skills.”

These skills have been key towards Millie's current role as a steward: “These skills have allowed me to be better with my customer service skills as I’m able to talk to customers in a professional manner and it is building up my confidence continuously.”

Partnerships Manager Ellis Oliver said: The Premier League Inspires project equips secondary school students with the skills and tools needed to be successful in future life, including further studies and employment. By undertaking a range of creative activities around different topics students feel more prepared for the working world and dealing with situations as they arise. Millie is a primary example of how immersing herself with the project can provide the confidence and skills set to go on to bigger and better things.”
