After seeing the Tigers Trust Boot Room appeal on Twitter with regards to a shortage of equipment, Becky Bursell from Hedon Rangers thought it could be something that herself and the Hedon Rangers team could support with.
The Boot Room appeal is a campaign which was set up in April through the EFL’s Week of Action, this is a collection of any old or unwanted boots off the public and session participants which can be given to those who may not have access to any. These can either be collected at sessions or dropped off at the Tigers Trust Arena.
On Thursday, a significant number of boots were collected from Becky before adding: "The appeal message was sent out to all our footballs teams and raised as an agenda item at the recent Annual General Meeting. Within a few weeks the donations began to arrive, resulting in a total just over 60 pairs of boots”.
“Hopefully these boots will give others the opportunity to engage in a sport that they would otherwise have been unable to be involved with. Knowing we have been able to help others play the game, build friendships and maybe create future teams is a great feeling”.
The Trust’s Marketing and Communications Lead Olly Burdett says that the Boot Room initiative targets major issues, including global climate change and the increased cost of living.
“As an organisation, we’re aware of the climate change crisis and the Tigers Trust is incredibly committed to minimising the local environmental impact wherever possible,” he said.
“This initiative recycles a piece of equipment that is used by millions worldwide, whilst aiming to ensure that no individual is left without the correct equipment to participate in physical activity.
"Thank you so much to Becky and Hedon Rangers for this incredible gesture; this donation will make a massive difference to the Hull and East Riding community."
As the festive period approaches, the Tigers Trust are now urgently appealing for more donations.
The current stock of boots is set to be distributed across the organisation’s Christmas activity, and these stocks will need replenishing for the project to continue.
