Adam Loubani, from the Tigers Trust’s Premier League Kicks Inclusive sessions, is ready to take on the world as he proudly represents Team Special Olympics GB at the Special Olympics later this week.

The Premier League Kicks programme strives to engage with thousands of participants each year, some of whom may have disabilities or additional needs, in an effort to ensure equality, diversity and inclusion in physical activity and to remove any barriers to competing in sport.

Adam, 23, has been involved with sport since the age of three, showcasing his talent which was soon recognised when he became a member of the Special Olympics in 2012.

The head coach of the Team Special Olympics GB swimming team then surprised him with a phone call last October to let him know he had been selected to participate in the Special Olympics. Adam admitted he was “shocked” by the news and “thought it was a prank”.

Adam will be competing in the 100m freestyle, 100m backstroke and a relay event. If Team Special Olympics GB progresses, he will then participate in the quarter-finals on Sunday 18 June, semi-finals on Monday 19 June and Wednesday 21 June, and the finals on Saturday 24 June.

Adam and the GB Team will be supported by 300 Special Olympics Great Britain supporters traveling from the UK, along with his family members, some of whom will be flying from the USA to Berlin to cheer him on.

On his selection for the Special Olympics, Adam expressed his excitement and gratitude for the support from his family and friends, saying: “I am super excited to compete in the Special Olympics in Berlin and I am very grateful for all the messages of support I've had from my friends in the various sports clubs I belong to.

“Special Olympics has given me great opportunities and I hope I make my coaches and family proud.”

Everyone at the Tigers Trust is immensely proud of Adam’s accomplishment and wishes him and Team GB the best of luck at the Special Olympics in Germany.
