The Tigers Trust is proud to support the FA’s annual Play Safe campaign alongside Hull City, which will take place across this weekend.

On the 28th and 29th of September, we reflect on the campaign and raise awareness about the critical importance of safeguarding at all levels of the game we love.

For Play Safe 2024, we are asking everyone involved in football to understand their role in safeguarding. This means that, regardless of your position in the sport, you recognise your responsibility to help create a safe environment for everyone.

The safety of children and adults at risk is a top priority for both Hull City and the Tigers Trust. We remain fully committed to doing everything in our power to safeguard children, young people, and vulnerable adults in our care.

We believe football should be a positive and enjoyable experience for everyone, whether as a player, spectator, child, or adult. We continue to promote the participation of all members of the community, ensuring that involvement in football remains a healthy, life-enhancing, and safe experience.

As a Club and as a Trust, we are fully dedicated to safeguarding and providing a secure environment for children, young people, and adults at risk. We will always take the necessary steps to ensure their safety, as we firmly believe that safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is EVERYONE’S responsibility.

Reflecting about the importance of safeguarding, the Tigers Trust’s safeguarding officer Kayleigh Jackson said: "Safeguarding is everyone's responsibility at the Tigers Trust and beyond. All staff and volunteers are required to undergo relevant background checks, such as DBS, and participate in regular safeguarding training, continuing to drive a safeguarding culture. The safety and well-being of children, young people, and adults at risk is paramount in all that we do."

We asked some of our staff members and session participants on what safeguarding means to them, this is what they had to say:

“Safeguarding is essential to today's society in order to ensure everyone can feel safe and comfortable in the activities they participate in.” – Sue Lindley, Secondary School Officer

“Safeguarding is to protect ourselves and others from potential risks and dangers of the unknown.” – Josh Barrett, Active Through Football Delivery Officer and Staff Ambassador

“Safeguarding is at the core of everything we do. It is essential that both staff and participants follow safeguarding measures to ensure the safety of everyone, no matter the environment.” – Conrad Arnott, Premier League Primary Stars Team Leader

“Safeguarding is important, so I know who to go to if I have a problem and everyone keeps me safe”. – Leva – Aged 6 - Woodland Primary School on the Tigers Trust’s Premier League Primary Stars programme

“Tigers Trust staff make me feel safe within the sessions and safeguarding is important to allow this”. – Phil Smith – Aged 37 - Disability Walking Football sessions

“It is important to have safeguarding measures in place because anyone could pretend that they are someone that they are not.” – Kasper – Aged 16 – Premier League Kicks Inclusive participant
