The Tigers Trust were proud to host an inspiring and energetic Day of Inspiration on Thursday 19th March, bringing together students from eleven of our partner secondary schools for a memorable experience designed to boost confidence and unlock potential.
One of the most memorable moments as the day began was from guest speaker and local adventurer Miriam Payne, who delivered a powerful talk about her extraordinary achievements rowing across both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans with a fellow rower. Her story immediately captured the room, drawing students into the determination, preparation, and courage required to complete such astonishing feats.
By sharing the highs and lows of her journey, Miriam demonstrated how perseverance, resilience, and teamwork can transform ambitious dreams into reality. She spoke openly about the setbacks and challenges she encountered along the way, emphasising that success often comes from embracing uncertainty and pushing through doubt. Her message resonated strongly with students and set a positive, inspirational tone for the remainder of the day.
Following the inspiring talk, students moved through a lively carousel of activities led by a range of fantastic partners. Humberside Fire and Rescue challenged them with team-building tasks that encouraged communication, leadership, and problem-solving under pressure. Hull Truck Theatre delivered an energetic creative workshop, giving students the chance to express themselves in new and imaginative ways while building confidence in their own ideas. Tigers Trust staff then brought a burst of sporting energy with a fast-paced Dodgeball session, promoting teamwork and active participation. To round off the experience, students enjoyed an informative tour of Bishop Burton College, where they explored the facilities, learned more about different academic and vocational pathways, and gained insight into what their future education journey could look like.
Adding to the excitement, Hull City Under-18s players Albert Matique, Alfie Maskell and Zac Jagielka joined the students for the afternoon and got involved in the activities. Their energy, approachability and genuine enthusiasm made a strong impression on everyone involved.
The players not only participated but also encouraged and supported the young people throughout, inspiring many of the students to push themselves and get the most out of the day.
We extend a heartfelt thank you to all our external partners for delivering such engaging sessions, and to Hull City Academy for supporting the scholar visit.
