Last Sunday, the Tigers Trust Arena was honoured to host the inaugural Dave Cooper Memorial Shield event, a day filled with football, community spirit, and remembrance.

Dave Cooper, a man deeply passionate about football and dedicated to helping run Fairbank Football Club, sadly passed away recently. His vision for supporting the local youth through the beautiful game left an indelible mark on all who knew him.

At his funeral, Dave’s wife shared his heartfelt wish that his legacy would fund opportunities for children to play football. She believed that the Tigers Trust was the perfect organisation to bring his dream to life, ensuring that his passion for the sport would continue to inspire future generations.

In honour of Dave's memory and his dedication to the sport, we established the Memorial Shield—an event that will now stand as an annual tribute to his legacy.

This inaugural event brought together over 79 talented young players from various Under-9 teams, with Hedon Rangers emerging as champions. The atmosphere was great, with players, families, and supporters coming together to celebrate Dave’s love for the game.

Stuart Fox, manager of the Hedon Rangers Under-9 team, expressed his appreciation for the occasion: “It was a privilege for Hedon Rangers Under-9s to be involved in such a well-organized event. The minimal waiting times between games ensured a smooth experience for everyone, and the smiles on the faces of the children and spectators were contagious. Being part of something so meaningful, in memory of Dave, was truly special—he would have been immensely proud.”

Well done to all who were involved throughout this event.
