The Tigers Trust is proud to celebrate Loneliness Awareness Week, taking place throughout this week

This week offers a valuable opportunity to create supportive communities through open and honest conversations. With this in mind, we saw the perfect chance to bring together two of our programmes: Forever Tigers and Premier League Primary Stars

The Forever Tigers programme celebrates the rich history of Hull City, showcasing memorabilia and items of interest to the community—including matchday programmes and match-worn shirts from years gone by. Funded through the Premier League Fans Fund, this project has already delivered heritage sessions in care homes and community groups to help reduce loneliness and isolation. Meanwhile, our Premier League Primary Stars programme works with primary schools across Hull and the East Riding to support physical, social, and emotional wellbeing, often incorporating Hull City memorabilia into classroom sessions.

Over the past few months, we developed a heartwarming project with Molescroft Primary School, one of our Primary Stars partner schools, and Beverley Parklands Care Home, located nearby. Students were invited to write letters to individual care home residents, who replied in return, creating meaningful pen-pal friendships and fostering intergenerational connections.

On Wednesday 11th June, the students visited the care home to meet the residents they had been corresponding with. This sparked lots of wonderful conversations, with residents sharing stories from their lives and students talking about their hobbies—helping to break down barriers, reduce isolation, and create joyful moments for everyone involved.

After the meet-and-greet, the group headed outside to enjoy a friendly and inclusive game of boccia in the glorious weather. They then explored a collection of Hull City memorabilia, including retro shirts and historical newspaper articles, which prompted even more interaction and activities. Residents and students even tried on some of the old shirts and posed for group photos together!

We hope everyone had a fantastic time. It was truly wonderful to see so many smiling faces throughout the day.
