On Friday, 7th November, Tigers Trust proudly welcomed schools from across Hull and East Yorkshire to the University of Hull for the local finals of the EFL Utilita Girls Cup, creating an unforgettable day of football and community spirit.

The Utilita Girls Cup is a prestigious national seven-a-side tournament for U13 girls in Years 7 and 8, designed to give young players the opportunity to experience competitive football on a bigger stage. The competition culminates in a grand final at Wembley Stadium ahead of the EFL Trophy Final, offering a once-in-a-lifetime experience for the winning team.

Each journey begins locally, with EFL clubs and their charitable organisations hosting tournaments for schools in their communities. These events not only provide a platform for girls to showcase their talent and passion for the game but also inspire confidence and teamwork among participants.

This year’s tournament was the biggest yet, featuring 20 schools from across East Yorkshire, stretching from Goole to Hornsea. Every match was packed with energy, skill, and determination as teams battled fiercely for the chance to progress to the next stage. The level of commitment and quality on display highlighted the growing strength of girls’ football in the region.

After a series of thrilling games, the final saw St Mary’s College take on South Hunsley Team A. In a closely contested match full of drama and excitement, South Hunsley emerged victorious, earning their place in the regional finals, where they will proudly represent Hull City and continue their journey towards Wembley.

A huge congratulations to all the teams who took part in what was a brilliant celebration of girls’ football. It was inspiring to see so many young players demonstrating skill, teamwork, and enthusiasm throughout the day, proving that the future of the game is bright.
