On Friday 6th February, we were delighted to host an exciting and action‑packed Futsal tournament at the Tigers Trust Arena.
The event brought together 11 Secondary Schools from across our Premier League Inspires secondary school programme, welcoming Year 7 and Year 8 boys who love football but may not usually feature in their school’s first teams.
The tournament offered them a full day of competitive fixtures, personal development, and opportunities to build confidence in a supportive and inclusive environment.
Alongside the action on the pitch, every team took part in an interactive Safer Internet workshop delivered by staff member Rachel. This workshop added a meaningful educational element to the day, giving students practical advice and tools to stay safe online.
Feedback from both students and staff was extremely positive, showing its value in complementing the sporting experience.
A standout feature of the event was seeing the players grow in confidence, communication, and ability as the tournament progressed. The camaraderie and sportsmanship displayed between schools were clear to see, helping to create a positive, welcoming, and enjoyable atmosphere for everyone involved.
Students from the second year of the Tigers Trust USW degree programme played a vital role in delivering the tournament, taking on refereeing responsibilities with professionalism and enthusiasm. Their involvement showcased the strong partnership across Tigers Trust programmes and provided them with valuable hands‑on experience in a live sporting environment.
The league stages proved to be tightly contested, eventually leading to competitive semi‑finals between Healing Academy and Hessle High School, and Wolfreton School and Sixth Form College and Driffield High School. A thrilling third‑place playoff between Trinity House Academy and Holderness Academy added even more excitement to the schedule and kept the energy high throughout the day.
The final saw Healing Academy and Wolfreton go head‑to‑head in a closely fought match, with Wolfreton securing a narrow 1–0 victory to claim the title and round off a brilliant day of Futsal.
It was a fantastic event filled with sport, learning, teamwork, and partnership. A huge well done to all the teams who took part, your effort, attitude, and enthusiasm made the day a memorable one for everyone.
