Scott’s love of the Tigers Trust’s Disability Walking Football Sessions

Scott Orriss has been attending the Tigers Trust's Disability Walking Football sessions every Wednesday morning since they first began last April.
Disability Walking Football sessions at the Tigers Trust are specifically designed to support individuals (18+) with additional needs and requirements due to having a disability.
Scott has been part of the Tigers Trust’s Disability Walking Football sessions since the very first session. Initially shy and nervous, his confidence has soared over time. His personality now shines through, and he’s become a real character at the sessions. He’s always there to help others, encouraging them to get the ball and shoot.
Scott also participates in the coffee mornings held after the sessions, providing him with an opportunity to socialise with other participants off the pitch and build connections with people who attend.
In addition to this programme, Scott recently took part in the Tigers Trust's Tigers Pathways programme, where he focused on setting personal goals, creating action plans, adopting a healthy lifestyle, and cultivating a positive mindset. This programme has proven to be a valuable resource for helping Scott navigate life changes and challenges.
Football plays a significant role in Scott’s life outside of the sessions he has attended and is a passionate Hull City fan and a season ticket holder. Taking part in Disability Walking Football sessions aligns perfectly with his interests and is something he really enjoys.
Speaking about the Disability Walking Football sessions, Scott shared, “I’ve met so many people and made new friends, and I’ve also reconnected with people I already knew from school and college.” He also praised the staff, saying, “They are all welcoming, friendly, and a really nice group.” He added, “It gives people like me the chance to join in, feel included, and be welcomed. It’s a really nice place to be.”
Scott encourages others to join the sessions, saying, “Come down and join in; everyone’s welcome. Afterwards, we have a cup of tea, some biscuits, and a good chat. It’s a great way to get to know one another, and I really like how inclusive it is.”
Scott’s grandad, David, spoke about the positive impact the sessions have had on him: “Scott is a huge admirer of football, and since I introduced him to it, coming here has become his favourite day of the week. He’s come a long way, and the Tigers Trust has helped him develop even further.”
“We always feel welcome here. They (staff) pay attention to people with different ways of life, and it adds so much to our Wednesdays. It’s great to see many of the same faces each week.” “It’s wonderful to see friends connect on and off the pitch. “Come along and give (the sessions) a try. You’ll see a side of your child or grandchild that you’ve never seen before.”
We’re so glad you enjoy the sessions, Scott, and it’s a joy to see you week after week.
