The Tigers Trust has seen a remarkable rise in girls’ participation in football across the local area, fuelled by the continued success of England’s Lionesses at the UEFA Women’s Euros in 2022 and again in 2025.
To meet this growing demand, the Trust has relaunched its Girls Football Development Centre, an initiative designed to inspire the next generation of young female footballers. The programme welcomes complete beginners taking their first steps into the sport, as well as players looking to build on the skills they already have.
Paid weekly sessions in five week blocks, take place every Thursday evening at the Tigers Trust Arena for girls aged 8-12 (7-8pm). Each hour‑long session provides a safe, supportive and welcoming environment, with a strong focus on key footballing skills such as passing, dribbling, shooting and defending.
Expert and qualified Tigers Trust coaches lead the programme, delivering engaging and enjoyable drills that help each participant learn, progress, and develop a genuine love for the game.
After the first block of five sessions, the Trust received overwhelmingly positive feedback from parents and players.
One parent shared, “She has absolutely loved them, and we have enjoyed seeing her play with a smile on her face.”
Another added, “It was her first time playing football, so she was a little nervous, but she loved how patient and friendly everyone was. She even made a couple of friends.”
The young participants themselves also praised the experience. One attendee said, “I really enjoyed learning skills and playing fun games. I liked that the topic changes every week, so we’re always trying to get better in all areas.”
Another highlighted the welcoming atmosphere created by the coaching team:
“Georgia and Fin at the Trust are friendly and make you feel relaxed and welcome before and during the sessions.”
Looking ahead, the Tigers Trust aims to continue expanding both its introductory girls’ football opportunities and its well‑established Football Skills Centre.
By strengthening the pathway available to young players, the Trust hopes to make a lasting, positive impact on every girl’s footballing journey.
