Hello guest
Your basket is empty
This week marks #NationalApprenticeshipWeek... we took the opportunity to ask our team of apprentices some questions for a short Q & A. Today is the turn of our apprentice, Tommy!

First up, tell us a little bit about you

I’m Tommy and I’m a 2nd year apprentice. I work mainly in 3 aspects of the Trust: PL Primary Stars, PL Kicks ‘Able and Active’ sessions, and a little bit of work on marketing/social media. My hobbies outside of work are gaming and watching football, before COVID I tried to attend most Hull City games and I would also visit a European stadium once a year, Dortmund being my favourite so far (highly recommend).

What do you love about sports coaching?

I love how rewarding it is, it’s a really warming moment when you walk into schools and get a big reception from the kids, it shows the impact our sessions can have on the students which you sometimes forget. I also love providing fun PE sessions that I used to love so much as a kid and I enjoy trying to give kids that same positive impression on PE that I had when I was younger.

What’s your dream role in the future?

In the future I would love to be working full time at the Trust, that’s my dream role as I really enjoy working here and it’s a great environment to be involved in internally.

What has your highlight of your apprenticeship been?

My highlight so far has probably been the first time I led my own group on a Football Centre, it was a nice responsibility and it’s like having your own mini class for a week, you build a good rapport with the participants and have a fun, engaging week of football.

Any advice for young people that are considering an apprenticeship?

My advice would be to go for it! The thought of it is a bit daunting at first moving away from school/college, but you won’t regret it! You learn so many new life skills and develop as a person a lot, it’s also a really fun experience which I recommend trying if you’re unsure. Oh, and also make sure you don’t get your mum to ring in sick for you!

Across 2021, we're looking forward to being able to offer a variety of positions to young people as part of the Kickstart Scheme. You can apply for these through the local job centre. Contact us more information on our Kickstart scheme.

Future apprenticeship opportunities will always be posted on our social media platforms and our Careers and Opportunities website page.
