Keiran, a passionate Hull City fan and membership holder, recently had the incredible opportunity to visit Hull City's training ground, a reward for his outstanding commitment and positive attitude during our Disability sessions.
Keiran, who has Autism, ADHD, and Asperger’s, joined the Tigers Trust's Premier League Kicks Disability programme nearly a year ago. At first, he faced challenges with frustration, often feeling upset when he made mistakes and believing he had let his team down. These moments sometimes led to anger, self-criticism, and even pulling his hair.
With support from the Tigers Trust team, Keiran learnt that sport is about enjoyment, not perfection. Over time, he developed strategies to manage setbacks positively, boosting his confidence and improving his interactions with others.
Keiran’s progress has been remarkable. He was selected for the Trust’s first Inclusive Residential back in August, made possible thanks to the generous support of the Sir James Reckitt Charity.
During the residential, Keiran demonstrated excellent teamwork, built friendships, and embraced new challenges that encouraged young people to step outside their comfort zones.
He has also participated in two football festivals, where referees praised his encouragement of teammates and his ability to keep the focus on fun rather than results.
Keiran’s attitude and behaviour throughout the sessions have been fantastic. To celebrate his commitment, the Trust alongside Hull City arranged a behind-the-scenes visit to Hull City’s training ground, a dream come true for Keiran who had the incredible opportunity to meet his heroes, watch them train, and explore exclusive areas of the facility.
A big thank you to Hull City for giving Keiran this incredible opportunity.
