Magennis and Long take 'Time to Talk' with our Tigers Team Mates

Thursday 4th February marks 'Time to Talk Day', an annual day whereby everyone is encouraged to open conversations about mental health.
During this difficult year, many individuals have battled loneliness whilst shielding or battled with their mental health as a consequence of lockdowns. So now more than ever, it is important to talk and connect with others even if that is virtually for now!
We recently surprised our Tigers Team Mates participants and invited two special guests to their weekly online quiz call. Hull City Striker, Josh Magennis and Hull City Goalkeeper, George Long, joined the call and surprised the group!
Tigers Trust staff hosted a short quiz where the players were playing against our Tigers Team Mates. The teams had to answer an array of questions relating to Hull City Trivia; our participants were victorious, although we must admit the players may have been outnumbered!
Conversation then turned to how everyone has found the year in and out of lockdown, and how that has affected football and the wider community. Magennis talked about the players routines during the pandemic, and the individual training plans they were given and how the players still stayed connected and messaged each other for support.
Magennis also shared his own first-hand experience of contracting Covid-19 and told our participants how ill and worried he felt in December but thankfully he now feels back to full fitness.
Long thanked our Tigers Team Mate member, Paul Bryan, for his efforts throughout the pandemic in reaching out and making over 200 phone calls a month to senior Hull City fans at risk of isolation and loneliness. His efforts have been recognised with a letter of commendation from the Lord Lieutenant on behalf of Her Majesty, the Queen.
The group thoroughly enjoyed meeting both players virtually, participant David Jackson said:
“It was a very pleasant way to spend 40 minutes in the company of Josh and George along with everyone else. My thanks are also extended to Josh and George for sharing with us their experiences over the last few months.”
