As part of the Tigers Pathways employability programme at Tigers Trust, we brought together both our current and previous cohorts for a special industry insight visit to KCOM.
This event was designed to give participants a unique opportunity to learn more about career pathways and the working culture within one of the region’s leading employers.
Louise, KCOM’s Community Impact Partner, and the team at KCOM hosted an inspiring and well-organised day. It began with a warm meet and greet session where staff shared their personal journeys, giving us a real sense of the supportive and family-like culture that exists within the organisation. These conversations were incredibly valuable, as they demonstrated how diverse experiences can lead to rewarding careers in the technology and communications sector.
Kristiana, Talent Acquisition Specialist at KCOM, then delivered an insightful presentation outlining the company’s vision for future employees. She highlighted the wide range of roles available beyond customer service, including opportunities in engineering, project management, and digital innovation. This gave our participants a much clearer understanding of the variety of career paths that exist within such a dynamic organisation.
The group then enjoyed a fascinating behind-the-scenes tour of the KCOM building, which included climbing to the very top to see the complex fibre optic systems in action. For many, this was a real highlight of the day, offering a tangible glimpse into the scale and sophistication of the work carried out by KCOM. It was particularly impactful for those who have been out of work for some time, as it showcased the breadth of opportunities available within a major employer.
To end the day, participants received thoughtful gifts including branded notebooks and water bottles, which added a special touch and reinforced the welcoming atmosphere we experienced throughout the visit.
A huge thank you to KCOM for their warm hospitality and commitment to supporting local talent. This was a truly memorable experience, and we look forward to continuing to strengthen the partnership between Tigers Trust and KCOM as we work together to create opportunities and inspire our community.
