Students from the Tigers Trust’s University of South Wales degree programmes enjoyed an unforgettable learning experience last week as they went behind the scenes at Hull City’s Training Ground.

The visit served as a valuable practical extension of their studies, giving them a rare opportunity to observe the inner workings of a professional football environment.

The Tigers Trust delivers two specialist degree pathways: Sports Coaching and Development, and Community Football Coaching and Development. These programmes are delivered in partnership with the University of South Wales and the EFL in the Community network. As fully accredited USW courses, students benefit from university level teaching combined with the Trust’s strong links across the sports and coaching sectors.

A key strength of these programmes is their emphasis on hands‑on, immersive learning. With small class sizes, support from experienced club mentors, and more than 500 hours of real-world practice built into the curriculum, students develop a robust foundation for careers in coaching, community engagement, and wider roles across the sport industry.

During their visit, students were welcomed by members of Hull City’s first team before being invited to watch a live training session led by the club’s coaching staff. Observing professional level drills up close provided valuable insight into the standards, communication styles, and coaching methods used at the elite level, knowledge they can now apply to their own development.

The experience also included a special moment with the full first team squad, who joined the group for a photo opportunity. The day concluded with a Q&A session featuring Andy Dawson, Hull City legend and current Head of Player Development. His reflections on both his playing career and his transition into coaching offered meaningful guidance for students considering their future pathways.

We extend our sincere thanks to Hull City for welcoming the group and to the coaching team for generously sharing their time and expertise.
