The Tigers Trust celebrated World Book Day on Thursday 5th March by welcoming Hull City players Regan Slater, John Lundstram and Matty Jacob to two of the Trust’s Partner Schools.

In the build-up to World Book Day, and in celebration of the National Year of Reading alongside the National Literacy Trust, the Trust collected donations of children’s books from the local community as part of its mission to help more young people across the region discover the joy of reading.

In addition to these donations, the Premier League Foundation alongside the National Literacy Trust and World Book Day Charity generously provided 1,200 free books, which the Trust will distribute to primary schools across Hull and East Yorkshire through its Premier League Primary Stars classroom delivery.

On World Book Day, the Trust delivered a range of engaging workshops across Hull and East Yorkshire designed to help children explore the power of reading. Sessions highlighted that reading is not limited to books alone but is something children naturally do throughout everyday life, often without realising it.

Pupils also enjoyed arriving in fantastic fancy-dress outfits, proudly portraying their favourite role models and book characters.
At Parkstone Primary School, the Trust welcomed Hull City midfielders Regan Slater and John Lundstram, while defender Matty Jacob visited St Nicholas Primary School much to the delight of pupils.

The players joined school assemblies delivered by the Trust, discussing how reading influences their lives both on and off the pitch. They also took part in creative literacy activities, including sentence‑building tasks and imaginative challenges.

Following the workshops, the players took time to present books to the schools and pose for photos with pupils.

Primary Education Manager Conrad Arnott at the Tigers Trust reflected on the day, saying:

“The visits from Hull City players as part of our World Book Day celebrations were a fantastic way to inspire pupils across both schools. Seeing John Lundstram and Regan Slater at Parkstone Primary, and Matty Jacob at St Nicholas Primary, brought real excitement to reading, showing the children the value of books, learning and imagination. Their time with the pupils helped reinforce messages around the importance of reading and how it can help them both in and out of school.”

The Trust extends its thanks to everyone who contributed to a fantastic day, and to Hull City for helping facilitate the player visits.
