During EFL Week of Action, we're reflecting on our first residential trip, a memorable weekend shared by both staff and participants, filled with excitement, teamwork, and lasting memories.
On Friday 22nd August, seven participants from our Premier League Kicks inclusive sessions embarked on this adventure, made possible thanks to the generous support of the Sir James Reckitt Charity.
The historic Sir James Reckitt Charity has celebrated 100 years of supporting local good causes and Quaker charities with a significant fund to make a difference in Hull and East Yorkshire.
The adventure began on the Friday afternoon with a lively football session at the Tigers Trust Arena. Spirits were high as the group then travelled to Melton Camp, where they kicked off the weekend by creating a shared code of conduct - setting the tone for respect, fun, and collaboration. The evening brought team challenges that sparked laughter and camaraderie, followed by a well-earned pizza night. As dusk settled, the group ventured into the wooded area for a thrilling treasure hunt, where medals and ice creams awaited the victorious. The night ended with a relaxing wind-down: watching rugby and playing board games together.
Saturday started with a hearty breakfast prepared by the group. They were joined by another one of our participants Louie, who led the day’s activities. First stop: Humber Bridge Country Park, where an orienteering challenge tested their navigation skills. Matching pictures to map points brought out their competitive spirit. After a quick lunch and a spontaneous football match in the park, the group squeezed in a bit of shopping for the evening’s cooking challenge. The afternoon took them to Welton Waters for a rafted canoe session, with Louie even hopping on a speedboat for a splash of adrenaline. Back at camp, the young people cooked their evening meal and immersed themselves in a virtual reality experience thanks to INIT Creative, before winding down with Hull City's highlights against Blackburn Rovers and preparing for bed.
Sunday morning was bittersweet. After packing up, the group headed to Dacre Lakeside Park for a fun round of foot-golf and a final ice cream treat added a sweet touch to the day before we brough them back to the Tigers Trust Arena. As parents arrived to collect their young people, smiles and stories were shared, marking the end of a brilliant weekend filled with growth, friendship, and unforgettable experiences.
A brilliant success all round for everyone involved!
