On the first day of EFL Week of Action 2024, we were thrilled to host the Utilita Girls Cup Group Two Qualifiers at the University Of Hull with a very special visit from Hull City’s Carl Rushworth and Steven Alzate.

The Utilita Girls Cup is a seven-a-side competition for U13 girls in Years 7 and 8, culminating in a grand final held just before the EFL Trophy Final at Wembley Stadium. The journey to the finals begins with each EFL club organizing a local competition for schools eager to participate.

We were delighted to welcome twelve teams from secondary schools including Snaith, Driffield, Sirius Academy North, Newland, Malet Lambert, Holderness Academy, South Hunsley, and St Mary’s College. Some schools even brought two teams, showcasing the enthusiasm for the event.

All teams competed in a league format, delivering thrilling matches filled with brilliant goals, outstanding saves by goalkeepers, and remarkable displays of teamwork. Once the league standings were finalised, we were joined by Hull City goalkeeper Carl Rushworth and midfielder Steven Alzate, who cheered on the players, watched the matches, and posed for photos with the participants.

The semi-finals brought intense competition, with both matches ending in penalty shootouts to determine the finalists. The grand finale was a unique showdown as South Hunsley Team A faced their own schoolmates, South Hunsley Team B.

In an exciting match, Team A emerged victorious, but both teams advanced to the next stage, alongside Sirius Academy West and Archbishop Team A, who had qualified from our Group One qualifiers on the 5th November.

A huge congratulations to all the teams for their fantastic efforts throughout the day, and a big thank you to Carl and Steven for visiting us!

Check out some of the best moments from today!
