On Friday 6th February the Tigers Trust were delighted to host the Premier League Primary Stars National Girls Football tournament Regional Finals at the University Of Hull.
Across the country, ten regional tournaments were held at community venues, bringing hundreds of enthusiastic young players together to represent Premier League, EFL and National League clubs. Each team arrived with pride, determination and the hope of securing a place at the national finals, which will take place in summer.
At the University of Hull, the Tigers Trust welcomed a talented lineup of Year 5 and 6 girls teams. Among them were the players from Westfield Primary School, who proudly represented Hull City and the Tigers. They were joined by committed teams from Scunthorpe, Grimsby, York, Harrogate and Boston, each playing on behalf of their own clubs and Club Community Organisations. The atmosphere throughout the day was full of energy, friendly competition and support from teachers.
The tournament featured an excellent standard of football, with exciting end to end matches and plenty of goals, teamwork and resilience on display. However, the day offered much more than the main competition. Participants also had the chance to get involved in a variety of additional activities, including futsal sessions, inclusive boccia delivered by Tigers Trust staff, and an NHS wellbeing workshop focused on the importance of mental health. These sessions encouraged teamwork, confidence and awareness, helping young people enjoy a rounded and positive experience both on and off the pitch.
The event became even more special when Hull City players Cody Drameh and Darko Gyabi arrived to support the activities. The pair spent time speaking with the young players, watching the matches and celebrating the teams achievements. Their presence added a real sense of excitement and inspiration for the children, many of whom were thrilled to meet two professional footballers. Cody and Darko also helped present medals and trophies, creating a proud moment for every team involved.
At the end of a competitive and enjoyable day, Scunthorpe were crowned tournament winners and secured their place at the national finals. Westfield Primary School finished as impressive runners up after a determined set of performances, while Boston were recognised with the Fair Play Award for their outstanding attitude and sportsmanship. To top off the experience, every team had the unforgettable opportunity to take a photograph with the famous Premier League Trophy, a moment that many will remember for years to come.
Scunthorpe will now advance to the national finals, which will be held at a Premier League stadium later this summer. It promises to be an incredible occasion and a once in a lifetime experience for the players who have worked hard to reach this stage
.
A huge thank you goes out to all teams, teachers and staff, who contributed to a brilliant day of football and created an event that showcased the passion, talent and spirit of young players across the region.
