Show Racism the Red Card Event 2020

Hull City captain Eric Lichaj and forward Josh Magennis attended a Show Racism the Red Card event at Tigers Trust Arena last week.
We have started our waiting list for children aged 5-13 years for the 2020/21 season.
The first-team duo shared their experiences of racism and answered questions from year six pupils from Preston Primary, Beverley St Nicholas and Christopher Pickering Primary School. The all-day event began with pupils splitting into three groups and participating in a number of workshops that explored a wide range of subjects.
Important issues including racism, stereotypes and hate crime were discussed, as well as homophobic, biphobic and transphobic (HBT) bullying. Following a behind-the-scenes tour of the KCOM Stadium, the pupils were given a recap of the morning session and asked to prepare questions for a panel of special guests.
The panel, which included Lichaj and Magennis, answered a plethora of excellent questions and then had the unenviable task of selecting the best three. The winning pupils each received a signed Hull City football, a goody bag and a poster which they could get signed by the panel. The children showed inquisitive thinking and impressive maturity with their questions and the day had a positive impact and great educational benefit on all who attended.

“It was great to host an event in partnership with Show Racism the Red Card again this year for some of our partner primary schools. The pupils all had a great day with the guys at Show Racism the Red Card. Having the first team involved really brought the day to life, with them sharing some of the experiences they’ve personally been through. It’s an event we’ve ran for the last four years and we want to continue to give as many children the opportunity to experience it as possible.”
Show Racism the Red Card is the UK’s largest anti-racism educational charity. Founded in 1996, it uses the high-profile status of football and football players to help tackle racism in society. The charity works with schools, football clubs, trade unions and companies to deliver unique anti-racism education to young people and adults. Each year Show Racism the Red Card delivers training to more than 50,000 people across England, Wales and Scotland.
