Hull City’s Badminton Clubs have been extremely well attended and have seen several children progress onto the Hull & East Riding Performance Centres. The Clubs are all run after school by dedicated and qualified coaches at St. Mary’s Sports College, South Hunsley School, Beverley High School and Malet Lambert School.
The tournament will take place on Sunday 5th February 2012 and will be held at the Hull Badminton Centre, Chanterlands Avenue North, Hull HU5 4ED. The tournament will start at 9:30am for the U-12’s and 13:30pm for the U-15’s competition.
Paul Pratt, Lead coach for the Premier League 4 Sport Programme said of the forth coming event “The ethos of the competition is a further playing stepping stone to encourage participants who haven’t experienced a badminton tournament to hopefully generate the confidence for them to want to consider joining one of our junior badminton clubs. We will be there to provide some leaflets and general information to those players who are interested.”

The Urban Cup will see children from around the country take part in this grassroots, all action, tournament that is designed to raise the profile of the sport and showcase some of the best up-and-coming talent in the country.
Representing the Tigers Trust at the National Finals on 3rd December, are local winners Charles Grazier and Phoebe Richardson from the Garden Village TT Club, Daniel Taylor and Rebecca Taylor from the Sirius school TT Club.
Matt Conway, Premier League 4 Coordinator said, “last years event was a great experience for the players, they had a great day and I’m sure the opportunity to play in a big venue and represent Hull City against other football clubs was a massive bonus. The players have done very well to get this far. I hope they enjoy the final event and use the experience to progress their table tennis.”
Premier League 4 Sport aims to offer thousands of young people the chance to get involved in volleyball, badminton, judo, netball and table tennis ahead of London 2012. The Premier Leaguie and Government funded project has won Sports UK, Coaching Intervention of the Year Award and has been awarded the Inspire Mark for its work in the build up to the London 2012 Olympics.

The Fred Perry Urban Cup, an initiative partnered by the Premier League, Fred Perry and the English Table Tennis Association (ETTA), gives 120,000 kids aged 11-14 across urban areas of the country the chance to try out table tennis for the first time this year. Saturday’s Urban Cup Finals in London saw the top 100 kids representing every Premier League club battle it out for the 2011 title.
Matt Conway, Premier League 4 sport coordinator for the Tigers Trust said: “Our youngsters played superbly well and were a credit to Hull City as well as their families who made the trip to London to watch them. It was a great experience for all of us and to come away with a medal was fitting to all the hard work that the children and their coach Shane Bradley have put in since the project started. We are already looking forward to coming back to next year’s Fred Perry Urban Cup Finals.”
Darius Knight, GB table tennis star and Fred Perry Urban Cup ambassador, was on hand to support the finalists and inspire the next generation of table tennis stars.
Darius said: “There was some great table tennis talent at this year’s Fred Perry Urban Cup Finals. I definitely spotted some stars of the future and it is through initiatives like this we will see more and more youngsters taking up the sport. Congratulations to everyone taking part in today’s finals and well done to the promising kids from Hull City.”
Richard Martin, Director of Marketing at Fred Perry, said: “This year’s Urban Cup was bigger and better than ever and Fred Perry is extremely proud to have partnered with the Premier League and ETTA to give so many kids the opportunity to play table tennis. Congratulations go to the Hull City Tigers Trust youngsters for a very impressive performance today. Fred Perry himself was a table tennis world champion in 1929 so we are really excited to see the popularity of the sport continuing to grow and look forward to the next edition of the Urban Cup.
