PL4S Badminton Tournament
Young Players from School Badminton Clubs around Hull and the East Riding will be given the chance to play in a tournament organised by the Tigers Sport and Education Trust and Hull Badminton Centre.
The grass roots tournament is part of the Trust’s Premier League 4 Sport Project. The Premier League 4 Sport project is an initiative that sees Professional Football Clubs link up with local sports clubs to help attract young people to take up badminton, judo, table tennis and volleyball. Each Premier League club will be linked to four community sport clubs. The 80 sport clubs will also link to four secondary schools in the area creating a total of 320 satellite clubs. Working with the sports' governing bodies, the Youth Sport Trust and Sport England, the Premier League clubs have set a target of getting 25,000 young people aged between 11 and 16 to join local sport clubs in the four Olympic sports by 2012.
Hull City’s Badminton Clubs have been extremely well attended and have seen several children progress onto the Hull & East Riding Performance Centres. The Clubs are all run after school by dedicated and qualified coaches at St. Mary’s Sports College, South Hunsley School, Beverley High School and Malet Lambert School.
The tournament will take place on Sunday 12th June 2011 and will be held at the Hull Badminton Centre, Chanterlands Avenue North, Hull HU5 4ED. The tournament will start at 9:30am for the U12’s and 13:30pm for the U15’s competition.
Paul Pratt, Lead coach for the Premier League 4 Sport Programme said of the forth coming event “The ethos of the competition is a further playing stepping stone to encourage participants who haven’t experienced a badminton tournament to hopefully generate the confidence for them to want to consider joining one of our junior badminton clubs. We will be there to provide some leaflets and general information to those players who are interested.”
