Get trained the Tigers way!
Tigers FC is a club where men can come along and take part in a football orientated exercise programme. Initially the participants will undergo the six week induction process. This entails short and informal presentations on certain health related issues, group discussions and the following assessments: height, weight, BMI (Body Mass Index), blood pressure, lung capacity, strength and flexibility.
The format for the six week induction programme:
Week 1:
Introduction and health assessment
Week 2:
Balanced diet (Rob Ward, Weight Management Company, creator of Fit Fans)
Week 3:
Importance of physical activity
Week 4:
Smoking, drugs and alcohol
Week 5:
General men’s health risks
Week 6:
Summary, evaluations and health assessments
On completion of the six week induction programme, the players are encouraged to continue with the football training, 10.30-11.30am.
The programme is delivered by the Community Health Team with the support of guest speakers from NHS Hull and the Weight Management Company. The team are all qualified Health Trainers and are on hand to offer the players one-to-one support or if required directed to specialist services provided by our partners.
Tigers FC is part of the Premier League Health initiative funded by Littlewoods Pools for 3-years. We launched the project on December 9, 2009 prior to the Manchester United match. We held a 5-a-side competition in the stadium’s indoor arena involving Hull City stars from the past. Russ Wilcox, Neil Mann and Adam Lowthorpe were amongst a strong contingent of ex-Tigers, they were joined by Trust staff and some Tigers FC players.
The video below demonstrates the enjoyment had by all. This will become an annual event, every player joining the Tigers FC programme this year will be invited to take part.
This is funded for three years from September 2009 by Littlewoods New Football Pools.
