Get trained the Tigers way!
Tigers FC is a club where men can come along and take part in a football orientated exercise programme. Initially the participants will undergo a Health MOT, this includes: height, weight, BMI (Body Mass Index), blood pressure, lung capacity, strength and flexibility (completed within the first 3 weeks, it takes approximately 15 minutes).
The programme is delivered by EX-HULL CITY PLAYERS and the Community Health Team. The team are all qualified Health Trainers and are on hand to offer the players one-to-one support or if required direct to specialist services.

Tigers FC is part of the Premier League Health initiative funded by Littlewoods Pools for 3-years. We launched the project on December 9, 2009 prior to the Manchester United match. We held a 5-a-side competition in the stadium’s indoor arena involving Hull City stars from the past. Russ Wilcox, Neil Mann and Adam Lowthorpe were amongst a strong contingent of ex-Tigers, they were joined by Trust staff and some Tigers FC players.
Testimonials
"I would recommend the Tiger FC project to everyone. It a fantastic project that has not only given me the chance to once again be part of a Football team, with a great bunch lads, but also increased my fitness levels massively! But most importantly, it's not only a great laugh, but has provided me with a increase awareness of men's health issues"
I've been attending Tigers FC for almost 2 years now since it started in January 2010 and I can honestly say it has changed the way I live my life, I know what I should be doing to help my overall fitness and health. It's not a strict regime of don't eat that don't drink this and you should be exercising this long for this many days, it's about a lifestyle suggestion and its about our relationship with food, drink and exercise. We all know that a visit to McDonalds or Pizza Hut isn't exactly recommended by the Department of Health, but as long as it's once in a while and not every day and you try do the right thing the rest of the time then it's not a problem.
The programme has taught me a lot about small changes that can have big results, for instance: a high fibre breakfast like porridge or Bran Flakes will give you a lot more energy and for a lot longer than a sugar packed cereal that will make you want to snack on the wrong things come mid morning. Try to eat Brown or Wholemeal Bread, which even tastes better than white.
You will also learn the major causes of male health problems and also how to prevent them if possible.
My energy and fitness levels compared to before I joined Tigers FC are non comparable, I've even started running in local 10K events in Hull, York & Beverley with other Tigers FC members as well as playing 5 a side football every week with my village team.
Now I know what the main health problems a man will face in life will be, and what the early signs are, I think it will make me more comfortable in approaching my doctor about.
This is funded for three years from September 2009 by Littlewoods New Football Pools.
