‘Goal setting’ is the phrase we use to describe how we plan targets for us to achieve. Our goals do not always have to be about sport, they can be about anything you want.

Good health and education is the key to reaching your potential, also increased aspirations improves opportunities to "Earn and Learn" this in turn could lead to "Health and Wealth". Set progressive goals and develop your skills over time, this will help you achieve your dream and hopefully lifelong happiness.

You may want to set goals to:

  • Complete all of your homework on time
  • Improve your hand writing
  • Learn how to cook your favourite food
  • To make sure you eat your ‘5-a-day’ (fruit and vegetables)
  • To make sure you do your 60 minutes of physical activity a day

‘SMART’ goals

When setting yourself a ‘goal’, there are some very important rules to follow known as the ‘SMART’ principles and these are:

S - Specific
Make sure that you have something definite in mind that you want to achieve and design your ‘goal’ to be about this. For example, “I would like to get better at scoring a goal for my team”.

MMeasurable
Make sure that you can tell whether you have achieved your goal, for example you may want to make a chart so that you can mark down how well you are doing with you ‘goal’.

AAchievable
Don’t make your goal too hard or too easy to achieve, give yourself a challenge.

RRealistic
Try to create a ‘goal’ about something that you know you can do.

T - Time
Give yourself a set amount of time to achieve your goal and try to stick to it. For example, you may set yourself a ‘goal’ that you want to achieve in a few days or weeks. This is called a ‘short-term’ goal. You might also set yourself a ‘goal’ for the future or something you want to achieve in a year called a ‘long-term goal’.

  1. Set yourself ‘SMART’ goals to achieve targets when at school, at home or participating in sport.
  2. Set yourself a ‘goal’ because you want to achieve it, don’t copy a friend’s goal because everyone wants to achieve different things.
  3. When you have set a ‘goal’, stick to it and work hard to achieve it!
