Being Active

Being active is a vital part of being healthy. Every athlete makes their activity level a priority to improve their stamina and fitness.

Do you know that the government says that we should do at least 60 minutes of exercise each day?

Exercise is important to keep our heart and body healthy - it can also be fun!

The two pictures below show the important bones, muscles and organs that we use when we exercise and that we need to keep healthy and working properly.

We know that playing sport keeps you active, however you do not always have to play sport to keep fit. There are many fun and exciting ways to achieve the 60 minute goal, for example:

  1. Playing games with your friends at school breaks
  2. Walking the dog with your family
  3. Helping out around the house and in the garden
  4. Going to the swimming pool/leisure centre
  5. Walking, biking or skating to school instead of going in the car

Can you think of any other ways to be active and have fun?

  1. Make the activities fun and challenging to keep yourself interested.
  2. Involve family and friends in your activities and exercise. This is a great way of spending time together whilst also keeping fit!
  3. Break the 60 minutes up into shorter time slots, you could do 3 activities that each last 20 minutes to add up to 60, but remember this is a minimum!
  4. Join a school sports club or a club at the weekend to fill your time. Check out the Humber Sports Partnership website by clicking this link to search for an accredited club near where you live http://humbersport.com/club-search
  5. Limit the amount of time you play computer games or watch television.
